Structural Steel Plate and Strip to EN 10025
S355 and Related Structural Grades
General Description
Steelox SA supplies hot rolled structural steel plate and coil in accordance with EN 10025, suitable for welded, bolted and riveted structures operating at ambient temperatures.
Available product forms include:
- Plate: 5 mm – 100 mm
- Coil (Hot Strip): 1.5 mm – 12 mm
Other thicknesses and international specifications (American, European and Japanese) are available on enquiry.
Steel to EN 10025-2 is intended for structural applications where no significant forming or bending is required. Weldments should not be normalised after fabrication, although stress relieving (PWHT) is permitted. Products delivered in the +N condition may be hot formed and normalised after delivery.
Grade designations refer to the minimum yield strength for thickness ≤ 16 mm. Yield strength decreases as thickness increases.
Suffixes indicate impact requirements:
- JR – Impact test at room temperature
- J0 – Impact test at 0°C
- J2 – Impact test at -20°C
- K2 – Impact test at -20°C (40J)
- +AR – As Rolled
- +N – Normalised
Steel Making
Steelox SA structural steels are produced via modern steelmaking processes to ensure high internal cleanliness and consistent mechanical performance.
Material is fully killed and fine-grained. Controlled rolling and heat treatment practices ensure compliance with EN 10025 requirements.

Mechanical Properties
Table 3: Mechanical Properties as specified in EN 10025-2
(Minimum yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and Charpy impact values remain exactly as in the original table for all grades and thickness ranges.)
Key reference values for S355:
- Minimum Yield Strength (≤16 mm): 355 MPa
- Tensile Strength: 510 – 680 MPa
- Charpy Impact (J2): 27J @ -20°C
- K2: 40J @ -20°C
Impact testing performed on full-size longitudinal specimens unless otherwise specified.
Dimensions
- Plate mill: 5 mm – 100 mm
- Hot strip mill: 1.5 mm – 13 mm
Refer to Steelox SA product dimension schedules for available widths and lengths.
Tolerances
- Plate: EN 10029 (Class A unless specified)
- Strip/Coil: EN 10051
Surface Inspection
Plates are inspected and defects repaired in accordance with:
EN 10163-2 Class B Subclass 3 (unless otherwise agreed)
Ultrasonic Testing
If specified at time of order, ultrasonic testing will be performed for thickness ≥ 6 mm in accordance with EN 10160.
Certification
All Steelox SA structural steels are supplied with:
- Analysis certificate
- Mechanical test certificate
Weldability
EN 10025 structural steels are readily weldable using conventional arc welding processes.
For thick plates, reference should be made to:
BS EN 1011-2 – Welding of ferritic steels.
Carbon equivalent should be calculated using the certified chemical composition values.
Supply Conditions
Material is supplied in accordance with Steelox SA standard terms and conditions of sale.
